Real Time Social Inventions (RTSI) [NPE] filed eight separate suits against CMI Marketing, Conduit, Facebook, Glam Media, Meebo, Ning, Oracle, Rockmelt, Salesforce, and Yammer, alleging that the defendants’ social network services infringe a patent related to facilitating real-time interaction between online users of multiple social networks.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by RTSI.  The patent-in-suit was assigned by ISQ Online to RTSN in August 2011. RTSN is holding entity formed by Amr Assal, one of the named inventors on the ’881 patent and the CEO and Founder of ISQ Online, the original assignee of the patent. ISQ an online social shopping service founded in 2006. Assal’s LinkedIn profile notes that ISQ Online’s business is currently limited to “selling or licensing” the ’881 patent. According to the ISQ website, “Dr. Assal has a Ph.D. in linear systems and control from UC Santa Barbara and attended Stanford for a Master’s in Computer Science with a focus on Expert Systems. Before moving to the Silicon Valley, Amr was an Associate Professor at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, teaching and working on industry projects in electronics and computer engineering. Amr has worked at Oracle, Eventus Software (Database management), Cyberplus (Electronic Medical Record), Versant (Object database), diCarta (Enterprise Contract Management), Phoenix Technologies (Applications platform and end-point security) and DigitalPersona (Fingerprint Authentication).” ISQ Online does not appear to have had a commercial presence to date. The website was established in 2011. Amr Assal, Raymond Lim, and Man-Ho Lee are the named inventors on the ’881 patent, which originated with ISQ Online and was assigned to RTSN in August 2011. RPX reviewed the ’881 patent as an open market opportunity (ISQ) in April 2011. The patent claims priority to a provisional application filed July 30, 2006.
