Smart Foundry Solutions (SFS) [NPE] filed suit against UMC Group and United Microelectronics over a patent related to forming self-aligned contacts in salicided MOS devices. The complaint is currently unavailable. SFS filed one prior suit in September 2011 against eight defendants including NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba. The patent-in-suit originated with Alliance Semiconductor and was assigned to Acacia Patent Acquisition in 2007. That complaint alleged that Smart Foundry is the current assignee of the patent-in-suit, but this has yet to be recorded at the USPTO. 12/29, Central District of California, 2:2011cv10762.
