NPE Sues IC Intracom with Patents from 3Com

December 13, 2011

U.S. Ethernet Innovations (USEI) [NPE] filed suit against IC Intracom, alleging that IC Intracom’s security cameras and print servers infringe three patents related to Ethernet technology.  USEI has filed three prior suits since October 2009 against over 35 defendants including Acer, Apple, ASUS, AT&T, Barnes & Noble, Canon, Dell, Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, Intel, Marvell, NVIDIA, Sony, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba.  USEI has also been subject to three actions for declaratory judgment.  The patents-in-suit originated with 3Com and were assigned to USEI in October 2009.  USEI is a direct extension of 3Com (since acquired by HP) and claims on its website that USEI “was formed to continue 3Com Corporation’s successful licensing program on behalf of its portfolio of foundational patents in Ethernet technology.” USEI has reached license agreements with 30 companies including D-Link, Lucent Technologies (with subsidiaries Avaya and Agere), and Palm.  12/12, Eastern District of Texas, 6:2011cv00665.
