NPEs Sue Staples

Eolas Technologies [NPE] and The Regents of the University of California filed suit against Staples, alleging that Staples’ websites infringe two patents related to interactive web applications. According to the complaint, Eolas is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit.  Eolas has filed three prior suits since February 1999 against over 25 defendants including Adobe, Amazon, Apple, eBay, Google, Microsoft, Office Depot, Sun Microsystems, Texas Instruments, Yahoo, and YouTube, and has reached licensing agreements with Microsoft and many other companies including Office Depot, Oracle, and Texas Instruments.  Michael D. Doyle, David C. Martin, and Cheong S. Ang are the named inventors on the patents-in-suit, which were assigned to University of California in November 1994.  12/2, Eastern District of Texas, 6:2011cv00646
