Helferich Patent Licensing Sues ValueVision Media

Helferich Patent Licensing (HPL) [NPE] filed suit against ValueVision Media doing business as ShopNBC, alleging that the company’s mobile programming updates infringe four patents related to wireless message transmission.  HPL has filed suit 15 times since 2008 against defendants including Asustek, Best Buy, Futurewei, HP, Huawei, NEC, Nokia, Palm, Panasonic, Sanyo, and ZTE. The patents-in-suit were issued to inventor Richard Helferich between July 2000 and March 2009, and were assigned to HPL between February 2008 and March 2011.  HPL claims to be the exclusive licensee of 25 US patents and 11 pending US applications related to delivering content to mobile communications devices.  HPL also claims to have licensed its portfolio to more than 80 companies including Amazon, Apple, Dell, eBay, HP, Microsoft, Motorola Mobility, Palm, and RIM.  11/1, Northern District of Illinois, 1:2011cv07766.
