September 28, 2011 – Isis, the mobile contactless payment initiative formed by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless, announced that HTC, LG, Motorola Mobility, RIM, Samsung Mobile, and Sony Ericsson all plan to introduce near-field communication (NFC) enabled mobile devices using Isis’ NFC and mobile technology standards. Commercial launch in test markets is expected in early 2012. The combined Isis venture will likely compete with the Google Wallet/Sprint mobile payment partnership.
