July 7, 2011- Forbes has published a story about the Nortel patent auction. Last week, it was announced that a consortium consisting of Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, RIM and Sony won the multi-day auction for the bankrupt telecom’s patent portfolio with a cash bid of $4.5 billion, nudging out Google. RPX’s CEO, John Amster, is quoted in the article with the observation, “Each company had different reasons why they didn’t want Google to own the patents,” he said. “The value was driven by the desire to ensure [that wouldn't happen].”
