Abstrax Targets HP’s Manufacturing Processes

March 6, 2014

Abstrax, Inc. filed suit against Hewlett-Packard for alleged infringement of a manufacturing patent (2:14cv00158). The patent relates to a manufacturing method for assembling products by generating and scheduling assembly instructions from modeling information (6,240,328). Abstrax says the process by which Hewlett-Packard configures, manufactures, assembles, and integrates its Factory Express service, Performance Optimized Datacenter, and other direct-to-customer product lines infringes the ‘328 patent. The asserted patent originated with three individual inventors and was assigned to Motorola in 1994; in 2007 Motorola assigned ‘328 to Abstrax. Shortly thereafter, Abstrax asserted the patent in lawsuits against Dell and Sun Microsystems. 2/28, Texas Eastern District Court, 2:14cv00158
