William Grecia, an individual inventor, filed suit against Amazon for alleged infringement of a patent related to authorizing access to digital content (8,533,860). The complaint accuses Amazon’s streaming video service and “Fire” stream media player of infringing ‘86o, a patent that Grecia has also asserted in suits against Apple, Google, Microsoft, Sony, and VUDU. The campaign was launched in December 2013 and all the lawsuits involved are currently ongoing. Grecia also holds a second patent related to monitoring access to an encrypted digital media (8,402,555).
