PLDN Holdings is one of several new NPEs that launched their first infringement suits this week. In separate lawsuits against Samsung and Sony, PLDN alleges defendants are infringing a patent related to distribution of user-preferred audio recordings from a service center to a large group of subscribers (6,278,976). The complaints accuse defendants’ electronic devices including computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones of infringing the ‘976 patent. PLDN was incorporated in Texas last month, shortly before it acquired the patent-in-suit from an individual inventor.
