July 10, 2014

Ziplink, a former operating company turned NPE, sued Verizon for alleged infringement of two patents (7,672,998, 8,271,596). Verizon’s Internet e-mail services are accused of infringing the ‘998 and ‘596 patents, which originated with Ziplink and relate to controlling transmission of messages between servers. Ziplink began asserting the patents in November 2012, a year after it ceased operations; past defendants include AOL, AT&T, Bluehost, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, Earthlink, GoDaddy.com, Google, Lycos, NetZero, RCN, and Time Warner Cable. More than half of those cases have ended in dismissal, most within eight months of the complaint being filed. 6/27, Connecticut District Court, 3:14cv00929
