Former Cypress Semi Patents Asserted by New NPE

July 10, 2014

Media distributors DISH Network and Echostar are the named defendants in TQ Beta’s inaugural lawsuit. The patent asserted in litigation originated with Cypress Semiconductor and was transferred to TQ Beta in June 2011 (7,203,456). It relates to storage and retransmission of broadcast signals between devices over a network connection. Set-top boxes made by EchoStar and sold by its subsidiaries and by DISH are accused of infringing the asserted patent. RPX reviewed the asserted patent as part of a larger portfolio offered by Cypress Semiconductor in January 2011 (Cypress Sling Media – Acq). TQ Beta is related to TQ Delta, an NPE that filed a group of suits in late 2013 against 2Wire (now a subsidiary of Pace), Zhone, and ZyXEL. The patents asserted by TQ Delta in litigation are unrelated to those asserted by TQ Beta; the TQ Delta patents are from a portfolio that originated with Aware Inc. 6/30, District of Delaware, 1:14cv00848
