Samsung Is Newest Mobile Manufacturer Targeted in Acacia Sub’s Campaign
After suing the majority of mobile device manufacturers in June 2014, Orlando Communications is now targeting Samsung. The four suits accuse Samsung, along with a wireless carrier, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon, of infringing two patents asserted in Orlando’s litigation. The Acacia Research subsidiary has asserted the patents-in-suit in each of its 19 cases, and the asserted patents relate to managing and transferring data over a communication system (5,687,196, 6,009,553). Samsung’s handsets are accused of infringing the patents-in-suit; the wireless carriers are accused of selling the infringing handsets to customers in their service networks.
