Alberta Telecommunications Research Centre (ATRC), a Canada-based NPE, sued Verizon for the second time. The new suit asserts a patent concerning a mesh communications network (6,404,734) and accuses Verizon’s mesh network of infringing the asserted patent. The entity, which does business as TR Tech and was previously known as TR Labs, developed the patent in 1998 and began asserting it in litigation in 2009. It has been used in about half of ATRC’s lawsuits.
