New NPE Launches Campaign Focused on VoIP Emergency Calling, Hits 35 Companies in Two Days

UrgenSync, LLC, a newly formed NPE, kicked off a campaign targeting VoIP-to-911 services. In 33 separate suits, UrgenSync asserts a single patent generally related to VoIP emergency call systems (8,295,802). Thirty-five companies have been hit so far, including 8×8, CenturyLink, Charter Communications, Consolidated Communications, Cox Communications, and EarthLink, Jive Software, Juniper Networks, Ooma, RingCentral, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, and Vonage. Defendants’ communication control apparatuses for emergency calls placed using VoIP services are accused of infringement.
