Sharp is the newest target of Canadian NPE WiLAN Inc. The entity asserted three patents in litigation against Sharp, all of which concern video streaming data (5,847,774, 6,359,654, 6,490,250). All three patents were developed by different operating companies, and two of them (‘654 and ‘250) were owned by Conexant just prior to WiLAN’s acquisition of the patents in 2009. The ‘250 patent was assigned to WiLAN in April 2015 by Maple Vision Technologies, which acquired it from original developer Daewoo Electronics in 2011.
