IV Files New Suits Against Canon

June 3, 2015

Intellectual Ventures II LLC (IV) filed two separate suits against Canon, each asserting a different group of patents. One suit asserts two patents that relate to CMOS image sensors (6,023,081;6,221,686). Those patents originated with Motorola and were assigned to Freescale Semiconductor in April 2004, and eventually to IV in July 2011. The second suit asserts three patents that relate to adjustable lenses (6,570,7178,030,7238,698,266). Those patents originated with Industrial Technology Research Institute and were assigned to Transpacific IP in November 2008. The patents were exclusively licensed to Yamahiro Kogyo Co. LLC, which later merged with IV, making IV the exclusive licensee of the patents. In both suits, Canon’s digital cameras are accused of infringement.
