Bright House, T3 Communications, WideOpenWest, and YMAX are the first targets of Patent Asset Licensing LLC (PAL), a Florida entity that has not previously filed litigation. PAL is asserting three patents that concern phone over Internet calling features, including forwarding and simultaneous ring (7,764,777, 8,155,298, 8,457,113). The complaints state that PAL is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, but the assignment is not recorded with the USPTO. Records indicate that the asserted patents originated with Telemaze LLC and were assigned to Focal IP in February 2014. Defendants’ VoIP and other services that allow phone calls over the Internet are accused of infringing the asserted patents.
