Attorney-Inventor Sues 15 Companies over Java Servlets

November 12, 2015

An inventor-controlled NPE sued 15 companies for alleged patent infringement, including Amazon, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, HP, Hulu, NBC Universal, Netflix, Samsung, The Walt Disney Company, The Weather Channel, and Time Warner Cable (2:15-cv-13935). In a single ninety-nine page complaint, Progme Corporation accuses the defendants’ Java servlets of infringing a patent (8,713,425) that generally concerns hyperlinking and printing hyperlinked content related to TV and radio programming. Michigan attorney David Anthony Reams is the sole inventor named on the patent, and he is also Progme’s counsel and president. This infringement suit is the first filed by Progme and the first to assert the ‘425 patent. The application from which the ‘425 patent issued is a continuation-in-part of a continuation-in-part of an application filed in April 2001 (and subsequently abandoned).
