Ten New Cases Replace Seven Apparent Settlements in Empire IP Affiliate’s Traffic Alert System Campaign
Manitto Technologies Inc. has added a second round of filings to a litigation campaign that it began in December 2014, when it sued 11 auto manufacturers for alleged infringement of a single patent (5,900,825). The ‘825 patent generally relates to communicating information (e.g. location, direction of travel, etc.) to a moving vehicle, and Manitto has asserted it against the travel alert systems used in vehicles as well as makers of related products. The December suits were consolidated for pretrial proceedings under the case against Ferrari (2:14-cv-01105), after which four were dismissed with prejudice, expressly in light of settlement (Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota), and three of which were stayed to finalize settlement agreements (Jaguar, Subaru, and Volvo).
