Late 2015 Sees an Increase in Patent Litigation by Uniloc

December 30, 2015

In 2015, Uniloc USA, Inc. and Uniloc Luxembourg S.A. (Uniloc) filed 15 infringement suits—ten of which were filed during the past two months. The NPE’s latest filings, lodged on December 28 against Avaya (6:15-cv-01168) and Shoretel (6:15-cv-01169) assert three unified communications patents (7,804,948; 7,853,000; 8,571,194). As in its previous cases asserting the same three patents, filed against Genband earlier this year, and against Microsoft in 2014, Uniloc focuses its infringement suits on the defendants’ unified communications platforms. Uniloc’s case against Genband is open in claim construction in the Eastern District of Texas (2:15-cv-00578); however, in July 2015, the NPE dismissed its claims against Microsoft (with earlier court filings referencing a settlement) (2:14-cv-01040).
