Smartwatch Makers Sued by Lone Inventor, a Self-Described “Mastermind”
- February 12, 2016
Apple, Samsung, and a host of other smartwatch makers have been sued by an individual inventor who asserts that his patent covers the combination of a smartwatch with a connected smartphone and audio headset. Albert C. Jones, a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, asserts a single patent (6,606,506) that generally relates to a “personal entertainment and communication device” comprising an audio headset with a microphone, a remote unit worn as a watch, and a touchscreen control/display unit with cellular capabilities. Jones is the sole named inventor on the ‘506 patent, which issued to him in 2003.
