PanOptis—Backed by a Dallas Law Firm and a Flock of Birds—Hits BlackBerry, Kyocera, and ZTE Twice Each

In January 2016, subsidiaries of PanOptis Equity Holdings, LLC have ratcheted up an existing litigation campaign and launched a new one, asserting multiple patents developed by Ericsson, LG Electronics, or Panasonic. PanOptis Equity has targeted the mobile phones, and other mobile devices, of BlackBerry, Kyocera, and ZTE by filing two sets of lawsuits against each company. PanOptis Equity (through its many subsidiaries) holds over 200 issued US patents, many of which it declares to be essential to LTE standards; so far, its practice has been to litigate a single member from each family of patents that it asserts.
