Two Suits Dismissed, One Re-Filed, in DuFresne Virtual Environment Campaign

In late February, Naraka Intellectual Property, LLC (Naraka IP) requested dismissals without prejudice in two of the four cases filed (against Newrow and Rabbit) in its sole litigation campaign, the dismissals contingent on consummation of settlements between the parties. On the same day, Naraka IP voluntarily dismissed its case against Zoom, Inc., noting that it had named the wrong party; the NPE recently filed a new case against the party that it had intended to sue, Zoom Video Communications (1:16-cv-00447). All of the complaints assert a single patent (8,112,490) generally related to virtual environments with multiple participants. The NPE has accused the defendants of infringing the ‘490 patent through products and services that facilitate desktop sharing, video streaming, and/or media sharing.
