Multiple Encoder Patent Asserted Against a Dozen Smartphone and Tablet Manufacturers

Recently formed Codec Technologies LLC has launched its first litigation campaign, asserting a single patent (6,825,780) against a dozen manufacturers of computing devices, including smartphones and tablets. The ‘780 patent generally relates to data compression using multiple encoders on a single integrated circuit. Defendants include Acer, ASUS, Blu Products, HTC, Pantech Wireless, and Toshiba, which are accused of infringement through the manufacture and sale of devices having a System-on-a-Chip with multiple encoders.
