Proxyconn Seeks Rematch with Microsoft After PTAB Cancels Claims on Remand

June 17, 2016

Proxyconn, Inc. has filed suit against Microsoft, Acer, Dell, and HP (8:16-cv-01102) six months after the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) cancelled multiple claims of the patent-in-suit on remand from the Federal Circuit. In a complaint filed on June 14, Proxyconn—a former provider of dialup acceleration software that has apparently shifted its focus to patent assertion—asserts a single patent (6,757,717) generally related to reducing the amount of redundant data transmitted over a packet-switched network. Microsoft is accused of infringement through its use of a technology called Remote Differential Compression (RDC) in various versions of its Windows, Office, and SharePoint software. Acer, Dell, and HP, meanwhile, are targeted for the sale of personal computers and servers running this same Microsoft software.
