Google Questioned over Past License Negotiations with Sun in Oracle Suit

July 26, 2011

July 26, 2011-  Bloomberg reports that Judge William Alsup questioned an attorney representing  Google over license negotiations with Sun Microsystems in 2006 related to the development of Android.  Sun reportedly offered to license Google for $100 million.  Google says the amount was related to proposed c0-development of Android and not simply a license. According to the Bloomberg article,  Alsup also referred to a letter written by a Google executive at the time saying, “We conclude that we need to negotiate a license for Java.”  Alsup reportedly asked, “Don’t you think a good lawyer will convince a jury that it’s a license for patents?”
