July 22, 2011- Litigated US patent 7,090,397 has been assigned to RPX by Atratech.  Atratech filed suit against ChiMei, LG, Mitsubishi, Philips, Samsung, Toshiba, and Vizio in July 2008 alleging infringement of an LCD backlight patent.  RPX negotiated an agreement with Atratech in December 2009, obtaining sublicense rights for RPX clients and as well as eventual ownership of the litigated patent (as well as a pending application and foreign counterparts) upon conclusion of the pending litigation.  Over the next year and a half, non-RPX client defendants continued as litigants in the suits before negotiating individual settlements with plaintiff, Atratech.  Chi Mei and Toshiba were the last two defendants to be dismissed from the suit. (Chi Mei settled in November 2010 and Toshiba in December 2010- both nearly two and one half years after the suit was first filed.)
