July 20, 2011-  Intel announced the acquisition of fabless networking semiconductor provider, Fulcrum Microsystems.  Fulcrum provides Ethernet switch chips for data center and telecom applications.  A spokesperson for Intel says, “Intel is transforming from a leading server technology company to a comprehensive data center provider that offers computing, storage and networking building blocks.”
