NPE Sues AT&T for Alleged Infringement of Mobile Device Location Patents Found Infringed by Sprint Nextel in 2008

June 23, 2011

Enovsys [NPE] filed suit against AT&T Mobility over two patents related to mobile device location. 6/22, Central District of California, 2:2011cv05210. Enovsys filed a previous suit against Sprint-Nextel in 2006 alleging infringement of Sprint Nextel’s “location-enabled devices and location-based services.”  A jury found the patents infringed and awarded $2.78 million in damages in 2008.  Sprint Nextel appealed the ruling and sought to establish that Enovsys did not have standing to assert the patents, as the patents were co-owned by one inventor’s ex-wife.  (The inventor is co-owner of Enovsys.)  The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court’s decision.
