Verizon is the latest defendant in a domain redirection campaign by Select Notifications Media. Since November 2012, Select Notifications has asserted the patent-in-suit (7,631,101) against six other Internet services and equipment providers: Cequel, CenturyLink, Comcast, Cox, EarthLink and Neustar. (The previously filed cases against all defendants except Neustar are now closed.) The ’101 patent, which is related to redirecting unresolved domain name requests, originated with Paxfire and was assigned to Select Notifications in May 2012, shortly before the entity began filing litigation.
