Market Sectors: Consumer Electronics and PCs, Mobile Communications and Devices, Networking

WSOU Investments, LLC (d/b/a Brazos Licensing and Development) has followed last week’s suits against BBK Electronics (OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen)) with five new suits against Canon (6:20-cv-00980; 6:20-cv-00981; 6:20-cv-00982; 6:20-cv-00984; 6:20-cv-00985) in the Western District of Texas. WSOU asserts in each complaint a single patent received from Nokia (including Alcatel-Lucent) since 2017, as it has been doing throughout this year. Together, the five suits target a variety of imaging devices (e.g., cameras, camera lens, and x-ray imaging devices), marking a shift in focus from the networking products that WSOU has targeted in its previous campaigns. At issue are features such as content sharing, image processing, video compression, and the incorporation of Bluetooth 5.
