New NPE Targets Voice Authentication Software

November 15, 2012

Digital Signal Innovations (DSI) filed five separate suits against Authentify, CSIdentity, Peter Soufleris, TradeHarbor, Vocalect Biometric Solutions, and VoiceVault, alleging that the defendants’ voice authentication products and services infringe a patent related to dial-in access security using a multimedia modem.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by DSI.  According to the complaints, DSI sent letters providing notice of infringement to the defendants on November 2, 2012.  The patent-in-suit originated with AT&T and was later assigned by Zhone Technologies to Patent Business Development in February 2011.  According to the complaints, DSI is the assignee and owner of the right, title, and interest in and to the patent-in-suit; however, this has not been recorded at the USPTO.  RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity (Zhone-Acq) in August 2009.  11/12, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01452; 1:2012cv01453; 1:2012cv01454; 1:2012cv01455; 1:2012cv01456.
