GPS Patent Acquired on the Open Market Asserted against Smartphone Makers

NovelPoint Tracking filed four separate suits against Apple, HP, HTC, and RIM, alleging that the defendants’ smartphones infringe a patent related to GPS tracking. vehicle tracking, collision notification, and voice communication.  RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity (Evans GPS) in July 2010.  NovelPoint launched its litigation campaign against telematics defendants and automotive companies in 2011.  11/12, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 2:2012cv00713; 2:2012cv00714; 2:2012cv00715; 2:2012cv00716.
