November 1, 2012

Civix-DDI filed suit against Hotels.com, alleging that the defendant’s website infringes a newly-issued patent related to the presentation of ads based on geographic selections by a user.  The plaintiff previously sued Hotels.com and others for infringing four different patents in December 2005.  Civix-DDI has filed seven prior suits since June 2003 against over 15 defendants including Motorola, Verizon, and Yahoo.  In May 2011, Civix reportedly negotiated a $7.5 million licensing agreement with the Natural Association of Realtors.  According to the complaint, Civix has granted hundreds of licenses resulting in more than $40 million in royalties.  Civix has also reportedly achieved settlements with Expedia, Microsoft, and Yahoo.   10/25, Northern District of Illinois, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv08588.
