Discover Financial Services Files DJ against Joao Bock Transaction Systems

Discover Financial Services filed a complaint for declaratory judgment against Joao Bock Transaction Systems [NPE], seeking declaration that its Discover Business Card does not infringe three patents related to providing financial transaction authorization.  According to the complaint, Joao Bock Transaction Systems communicated its intention to assert its patent rights against Discover in August 2012 and again in September 2012.  Joao Bock Transaction Systems has filed over 10 prior suits against over 40 companies, including Charles Schwab, Comerica Bank, First National Bank, OptionsHouse, Scottrade, Sleepy Hollow Bank, and USAmeriBank since December 2003.  Joao Bock Transaction Systems has two regionally named affiliates, Joao Bock Transaction Systems of Texas and Joao Bock Transaction Systems of California.  Raymond Joao and Robert Bock are the named inventors on the patents-in-suit, which were assigned to Joao Bock Transaction Systems in December 2008.  10/9, Northern District of Illinois, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv08044.
