  • October 10, 2012

Wi-LAN filed two separate suits against Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson, alleging that the defendants’ base station and related wireless products compliant with the 3GPP LTE standard infringe three patents related to transmitting multiple modulated signals over wireless networks and pre-allocated random access identifiers.  Wi-LAN has filed over 10 prior suits against Acer, Alcatel-Lucent, Apple, Calix, Conexant, and HTC.  Two of the patents-in-suit originated with Ensemble Communications and were assigned to Wi-LAN in May 2004 and one originated with Nextwave Broadband and was assigned to Wi-LAN in July 2009.  Wi-LAN is a Canadian publicly-traded, patent licensing company based in Ottawa, Ontario.  10/1, Southern District of Florida, assigned to Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga and referred to Magistrate Judge Andrea M. Simonton, 1:2012cv23568; assigned to Chief Judge Federico A. Moreno, 1:2012cv23569.
