COVID-19 Winter Prompts “Reluctant” Pause in East Texas Jury Trials

This past August, District Judge Rodney Gilstrap resumed trials (resulting in one notable verdict) after coronavirus infection rates in and around the Eastern District of Texas began to drop. However, as the latest wave in the COVID-19 pandemic grips the nation and after an outbreak during a trial before another judge in the Eastern District, Judge Gilstrap has “reluctantly” halted all jury trials before him.
