Acacia Settles Long-Running Medical Software Suit

June 12, 2012

June 11, 2012 – Acacia Research announced that its subsidiary, Document Generation Corporation (DGC), entered into an agreement with eClinicalWorks, resolving a litigation in the Southern District of Illinois.  More than four years ago, in December 2007, DGC filed suit against over 15 companies, including Allscripts, eClinicalWorks, McKesson, and NextGen Healthcare, alleging that the defendants’ electronic medical records systems infringe a patent related to document generation. eClinicalWorks, a medical software company, generated $156 million in revenue in 2010. Acacia acquired an exclusive license in 2006 that was recorded with the USPTO in 2009.  eClinicalWorks was the last defendant to settle out of the case.
