Another NPE Campaign Implicates the H.264 Codec

March 24, 2021

Compression Vectors, LLC has initiated a litigation campaign, suing Canon (Axis Communications) (4:21-cv-00227) and Cisco (4:21-cv-00229) in the Eastern District of Texas over a single video compression patent. Axis is accused of infringement through the provision of video surveillance cameras; Cisco, through hardware video encoders as well as telepresence devices and IP phones with videoconferencing support. At issue in both complaints is the accused products’ support of the H.264 codec and Dynamic Group of Pictures (GOP), a video encoding feature used to save bandwidth.
