May 17, 2012 – Reuters reports that Apple has placed large DRAM orders with Elpida (despite Elpida’s recent bankruptcy filing) in what is thought to be a supplier diversification effort.  Samsung currently supplies the majority of DRAM to Apple despite the ongoing patent battles between the two companies.  The article cites a source that estimates that Elpida already sells more than half of its mobile DRAM to Apple.
