New NPE Campaign Initiated by Empire IP

Rotatable Technologies [NPE] filed two separate suits against Acer, Adobe, Archos, ASUS, ASUSTek, Motorola Mobility, Nokia, Opera Software, Samsung, and Sony, alleging that the defendants’ software, smartphones, and tablets infringe a patent related to selectively rotating windows on a computer display.  These are the first two patent infringement suits initiated by Rotatable Technologies.  The patent-in-suit was assigned by the inventor to Empire IP in January 2012 before being assigned to Rotatable Technologies in April 2012. Empire IP’s website says that it was founded by “patent attorneys who formerly worked in prestigious New York City law firms representing some of the worlds largest corporations.” Empire IP is behind two other NPE campaigns in 2012: PotterVoice and PanoMap.  5/1, Eastern District of Texas, Judge Rodney Gilstrap, 2:2012cv00263, and no judge yet assigned, 2:2012cv00265
