Acacia’s SmartPhone Technologies Sues AT&T and LG

SmartPhone Technologies [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed suit against AT&T and LG, alleging that the defendants’ smartphones infringe nine patents related to various mobile device technologies.  SmartPhone Technologies has filed seven prior suits since March 2010 against AT&T, Apple, Dell, Exedea, Futurewei, HTC, Huawei, Insight Enterprises, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Pantech, RIM, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony Ericsson, and T-Mobile.  According to the complaint, SmartPhone is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, four of which originated with Palm.  In January 2012, Acacia announced that SmartPhone entered into a license agreement with Amazon.  4/26, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 6:2012cv00291.
