Altera filed an action for declaratory judgment against MOSAID [NPE], seeking declaration that its semiconductors do not infringe six patents related to processors and memory. The patents-in-suit originated with AT&T and Lucent Technologies. According to the complaint, LSI granted MOSAID an exclusive license to the patents-in-suit for 10 years beginning in May 2007. MOSAID has filed more than a dozen suits since 2005, and in December 2011, announced that it will be acquired by private equity firm Sterling Fund Management for $596 million. 1/23, Northern District of California, 3:2012cv00342.
