Altitude’s Preservation Technologies Files Suit against Sony
- December 30, 2011
Preservation Technologies [NPE] filed suit against Sony. The complaint is currently unavailable. Preservation Technologies filed suit against Hulu on December 27, 2011, alleging that Hulu’s website and applications infringe nine patents related to cataloging and delivering digital multimedia content that originated from a Holocaust museum, Survivors of the Shoah. Preservation Technologies (an affiliate of Altitude Capital and Digitude) filed two other suits in December 2011 against defendants Amazon, Dish Network, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Sony, and YouTube. Samuel Gustman is the named inventor on all of the patents-in-suit in those cases, which were assigned to the University of Southern California in December 2005 when the Survivors of the Shoah became part of the university. Preservation Technologies claims to be the exclusive licensee of the patent-in-suit. Rights to 11 patents from the Shoah portfolio were sold in a pre-auction sale by Ocean Tomo in March 2010 for $7 million. 12/27, Central District of California, 2:2011cv10694.
