Acacia’s Chalumeau Power Systems Sues Alcatel-Lucent and Allied Telesis

December 2, 2011

Chalumeau Power Systems [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed two separate suits against Alcatel-Lucent and Allied Telesis, alleging that the defendants’ power over Ethernet products infringe a patent related to a detection of a connected device.  Chalumeau filed its first patent infringement suit in June 2011 against 13 defendants including Avaya, Brocade, Cisco, D-Link, Enterasys, Force10, HP, LG-Ericsson, and Netgear.  In September 2011, Chalumeau dismissed D-Link and refiled a separate suit against them.  The patent-in-suit was assigned to Acacia in April 2011 by Clarinet Systems.  RPX acquired sublicense rights for clients in September 2011. 11/29, District of Delaware, 1:2011cv01175; 1:2011cv01176.
