“Multilateration” Targeted in New Suit Against Cisco

July 7, 2022

Inventor-controlled NearVerse, Inc. has filed a Western District of Texas suit against Cisco (6:22-cv-00736), targeting the provision of the Unified Wireless Location Based Services (UWN) platform with a single patent generally related to determining a device’s location through “multilateration” using position estimates obtained from “neighboring mobile devices”. NearVerse pleads defensively against an Alice challenge to claims of the sole asserted patent, further indicating that “there is at least a question of fact that must survive the pleading stage as to whether these specific elements of Claim 1 of the ‘853 Patent were an unconventional arrangement of elements”, citing the Aatrix and Berkheimer cases.
