ARM Files for DJ against Commonwealth Research

October 3, 2011

ARM filed an action for declaratory judgment against Commonwealth Research Group (CRG) [NPE] over a patent related to an energy-saving circuit for semiconductors.  CRG has filed suit twice since March 2010 over the same patent against over 30 defendants including Fujitsu, Samsung, Sanyo, and Toshiba.  In the complaint, ARM alleges that CRG has been harassing ARM and ARM’s licensees with threats of litigation over its processors.  CRG has reached confidential settlements with several defendants from the March 2010 suit including Actel, Atmel, Fujitsu, Infineon, Mitsubishi, NXP, Renesas, Samsung, and Sanyo.  The settlement with NXP appears to have also included transfer of several NXP patents to CRG.  9/28, Eastern District of Virginia, 1:2011cv01055.
