Inventor-controlled Calabrese Stemer LLC has returned to litigation, filing a suit against Comerica (Comerica Bank) (2:22-cv-00386) targeting its system for sending text or email notifications regarding debit or credit card activity. A single patent generally related to mobile notifications of processed payments is asserted in the new Eastern District of Texas case. Calabrese Stemer filed a short-lived 2009 case against Visa, the activities of which are cited in the plaintiff’s new complaint as well, to support the proposition that the claims of the asserted patent “involve[] more than well understood, routine, and conventional activities”.
