Headwater Research Sues Samsung over Mobile Data Management Technology

October 26, 2022

Headwater Research LLC has turned to litigation, accusing Samsung (2:22-cv-00422) of infringing three wireless communications patents in a new Eastern District of Texas complaint. That complaint recounts the history of “primary inventor” Greg Raleigh, including a set of alleged interactions concerning the asserted patents and related technologies dating back to April 2010 when ItsOn (a separate Raleigh company) worked under a nondisclosure agreement with first Sprint (later, T-Mobile) “to solve Sprint’s data demand problems” and then Sprint and Samsung “to implement Headwater-patented technology directly into Samsung’s devices”. Headwater Research alleges willfulness based on these events, targeting Samsung’s provision of “mobile electronic devices, including mobile phones and tablets”.
